Boston Celtics Coach

Celtics Name Joe Mazzulla Permanent Head Coach

Ime Udoka's Successor Was Previously Interim Head Coach

Mazzulla Led Celtics to NBA Finals in 2023

The Boston Celtics have named Joe Mazzulla their permanent head coach, the team announced Monday.

Mazzulla, 34, took over as interim head coach in September after Ime Udoka was suspended for violating team policies. He led the Celtics to a 42-17 record in the regular season and a berth in the NBA Finals, where they lost to the Golden State Warriors in six games.

Mazzulla's promotion comes as no surprise. He was widely praised for his leadership and coaching ability during his time as interim head coach. He also has a strong relationship with the Celtics players, who have spoken highly of him both on and off the court.

"Joe has shown that he is a great coach and leader," Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens said in a statement. "He has a deep understanding of the game and has a great rapport with our players. We are excited to have him as our head coach."

Mazzulla is the 18th head coach in Celtics history. He is also the youngest head coach in the NBA.
